Finally got things wrapped up here
after rifle season. Although the weather didn't cooperate (it
was the hottest fall here since the mid-fifties) we had a fair
season. As many of you know we started off with a good archery
season taking 5 bulls for 8 hunters. Rifle season was where the
weather really hit us. However we still had 20 bulls taken by 40
hunters. And we had some pretty nice bulls taken overall.
As
usual the highlight of the season was our Outdoor Dream hunt.
Brittany Wright travelled here from NC along with her mother
Gail. Brittany, guided by Jim Bruno & Brian Palmieri, took a
nice Whitetail buck. If you get a chance, visit
www.Outdoordream.org
to see what all this wonderful organization does.
If you get a chance to stop by, I
would like to see you at one of the shows. I will have a booth
at the following:

Here are picture from the first
archery hunt in 2010. We went three for five with a lot of action for
all. We are still in mountains, so watch for detailed hunting stories
when we get back!
The season has started off with great results. We had 3 hunters out
of five kill bulls on our first archery hunt with the biggest being
taken by Kurt Larson. This is the 7th bull out of 8 hunts that Kurt has
taken with us. We just finished with our 2nd hunt and had 2 hunters out
of 3 kill bulls. Dave Anana took the best on this hunt and this is his
4th bull out of five hunts with us. All hunters saw a fair number of
bulls and had some pretty good action.
We are in the final stages of putting the finishing touches on the
rest of the camps and getting ready for a busy rifle season. We'll keep
you posted.

We
had to weasel through four other bulls to get to this one. Our bugling,
raking and incessant cow calls were too much motivating him to confront
the challenger without hesitation. He was on us in seconds requiring a
hard cow call to stop him at 15 yards. The arrow blew through arrested
only by a natural formation beyond the animal. Smarting but confused
the bull bolted then composed himself directly between my partner and
I. The large entry and exit holes confirmed finality. The blonde titan
staggered away, bedded then took his last breath. He was a fighter with
much of his forehead hair rubbed bare and numerous neck/body scars from
encounters with other bulls. He was a beautiful gift.
